Back in Whack for Adults [BiW4Adults]

BiW4Adults is a holistic weight loss program which focuses on how the body functions as a whole and recognizes that energy balance within the body is influenced by multiple interconnected systems rather than treating excess weight as a single problem. Holistic weight loss considers how digestion, hormones, stress response, emotional health and daily habits work together and the role each plays in weight regulation. When these systems are out of whack, excess weight gain or weight loss resistance is often a symptom rather than the core problem.

BiW4Adults is a multimedia program which utilizes interactive health coaching videos in combination with the program workbook to provide an interactive engaging learning experience for program participants. There are 6 primary program components (listed below). Each component includes several engaging activities (listed below) which creates an exciting journey of self-discovery and personal grow for program participants as they work toward achieving a healthier weight. Six Program Components

There are 6 program components: 1) Action Steps for Weight Loss [4-step nutrition plan];  2) Nutrition Education [nutrition education and training]; 3) Body Biology Explained [anatomy and physiology of the body]; 4) Physical Activity; 5) What About Stress [manage stress]; and 6) Power Tools [habit change].

The program nutrition plan is composed of 4 action steps. Each action step builds upon the previous action step(s).  Action steps are as follows: 1) Action Step One [Eat cleaner];  2) Action Step Two [Burn More Than You Store] - choose foods that produce moderate steady blood glucose levels and promote utilization (burning) of calories consumed;  3) Action Step Three [Low Carb Nutrition Plan] - limiting total carbohydrates consumed per day; 4) Action Step Four [Nutrition Plan for a Healthy Weight] - provides sufficient calories to maintain a healthy weight (BMI of 25.0 or lower). Each Action Step for Weight Loss includes its own corresponding Nutrition Education and Body Biology Explained sections.

Each nutrition education step is specifically tailored to support and explain the corresponding step of the nutrition plan, teaching participants key points about nutrition recommendations for each action step and how each step supports weight loss and peak health.

Body Biology Explained (BBE) helps participants understand what is going on inside their amazing bodies. They learn about key hormones that control energy balance in the body. Each step of BBE will help participants understand how the new eating habits they are adopting during each action step, will support a healthy energy balance and promote weight loss.

There is a second part of each BBE section that is indirectly related to the corresponding Action Step for Weight Loss. Different health issues that cause weight loss resistance are explained, including symptoms of them and natural interventions to resolve or lessen the health issue.

During the physical activity component, participants learn about 4 types of physical activity that support a healthy weight and have a positive effect on the body’s energy balance. They learn about safety precautions for each type of physical activity. They complete a self-assessment to determine if a physical exam is needed prior to starting a new exercise routine. Participants learn

how to safely develop their own personal physical activity program, tailored to fit their physical ability.

The manage stress is an important component.  It is difficult to lose weight with high cortisol (stress hormone) levels in the body. Therefore, learning strategies to manage stress and relax on purpose are very important to any weight loss plan. This section teaches participants actions they can take to diminish the harm effects of stress on the mind and body. They complete self-assessments to help them identify sources of stress in their lives.  Participants learn how to perform several deep breathing and relaxation exercises during this section.

BiW4Adults utilizes multiple research based habit (behavior) change techniques called power tools. Power tools refer to habit change training, that provides participants with tools and skills that make it easier for them to let go of old unhealthy habits and replace them with new healthy habits. The power tools component utilizes themes, tools, and skills that have all been confirmed by research studies to positively influence, support, and facilitate behavioral change.  Here’s several examples of power tools that participants will have an opportunity to use during the program: 1) Habit Trackers; 2) Nutrition Log; 3) Journaling; 4) Visualizations; 5) Positive affirmations; 6) techniques to combat negative thinking; 7) Food craving management plan; 8) Problem solving plus several others.
